Definitely Dead (The Southern Gothic Vampire Series)
I'm Kim Alexander and this is a Fiction Nation minute. The book is Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris. When we last checked in with small town psychic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse, she had learned of the mysterious death of her no-good cousin Hadley in New Orleans. Now she has to go close up her apartment and figure out what happened, and while she's there, the vampire queen of New Orleans want a word with her and that's an appointment you can't be late for. But something or someone doesn't want her to go, and it all points to her ex and first love, Bill. We find out some pretty bad news about vampire Bill, but I think it'll all come out in the wash, I've always liked him. In Definitely Dead, Harris seems to be setting the stage for a story about Sookie's ancestry, and why supernatural creatures are so attracted to her. This is the 6th in the series, and Sookie and the Southern Gothic vampire series shows no sign of getting stale. Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris. Well, it felt like my birthday when this showed up at my desk I love this author. The Southern Gothic Vampire Series is the perfect mix of horror, romance and mystery, set in the tiny Louisiana town of Bon Temps. Charlaine Harris has a down-home but never cutesy voice and our heroine, psychic barmaid and town nut Sookie Stackhouse balances her time between solving supernatural mysteries, salvaging her love life and fending off attack by monsters, oh, and trying not to be late to her shift at the bar. The great news is that Alan Ball, creator of Six Feet Under, and HBO are getting together and turning this into a series, set probably for this fall, although don't quote me. I can't wait to see who plays Sookie, and see which of the plots from the 6 books in this series they use. You have plenty of time before it goes on the air to get caught up, the first one is called Dead Until Dark. The latest is Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris.
